And this is how it starts:
The hall was dark, smelling of thatch, and wood, and hay, and fire. The odours of roasted meat, and mead, and of men sitting at a table hung in the air still. They were no longer visible, vanished somewhere into the darkness that had fallen. The only remaining island of light was at the far end of the hall, where the last fire was dying in the fireplace. An ancient woman sat there, shaking her cupped hands, releasing the rattling contents onto the floor in front of her.
